A band of GWS members, along with a number of John's Perry GA friends and some interested bike riders attended a ceremony in Perry yesterday to install a memorial. David Matthews, of Bike Friendly in Atlanta, has been creating these memorials to bicyclists killed on the roads in Georgia. He was attracted to Perry, to the site of John Houser's demise at Larry Walker Parkway and Ball Street, by local resident Ellen Mazzerella who rides these same roads herself. Ellen brought this story to the attention of Channel 13, WMAZ, in Macon, which covered the ceremony Sunday morning. Mr. Matthews graciously allowed GWS to place one of our laminated club signs on the bicycle he had created for John. Many thanks to David for his efforts to bring attention to the high mortality rate for cyclists on Georgia roads and to Ellen for organizing the Perry event. GWS attendees were: Margaret Clay, Lynn Rivenbark, Ben Thompson, Bonnie Gehling, and Terry and Rosemary Ross. If you get the chance, drive by and visit the memorial in person.
