Adventures on Arabia Mountain

Arabia Mountain - April 4, 2022
Davidson Arabia Mountain Path was traveled April 4, 2022 from the Davidson Arabia Nature Center in Stonecrest, GA to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Ga. Joe Mangum, Jeff Sorenson, Terry Ross, Mary Katz, and Jo Scott were the five winter weary and in not in their top physical shape participants. The 16 mile ride was gorgeous and at a prime time for distance views. The trees were just starting to leaf out leaving beautiful views of the monodock outcrops with some starting to grow the red diamorpha smalli. Other outcrops were still bare, and looking as if they had been burned. The South and Rockdale Rivers were scenic and commanded attention. Basil's walking trip should be perfectly timed for the monodocks to be in full splendor.

Flying down the smooth pavement pulled by gravity was fun. One was careful to stay in their lane round the next curve or wooden bridge. Pauses at the the bottom of hills were not made for pictures as every bit of momentum was used getting up the next hill, thus avoiding pushing
one’s bike to the next hillcrest if possible. Being a weekday, homo sapiens were scarce, and most were on a leash led by canus lupus familiarius. Both species were pleasant to share the trail with.

In the end we did not have the energy to see the Monastery, their gift shop, or bonsai plants. Thanks to Joe for running the return shuttle to the Nature Center for Jeff and Jo. All made it home safely. The end of a beautiful, temperate, sunny Spring day in Georgia.
